Although we’ve heard so many great things about yoga, doing it at home rarely seems like a challenging enough workout for it to be worth our time. Even when we tried Jillian Michaels and her Yoga Meltdown series, it didn’t feel quite right. Although it was definitely more challenging than any poses we could manage on our own, it didn’t feel really personal–Jillian seems more like she’s talking at you, not with you and that’s more or less the nature of many video workouts. This is why we really enjoyed Mixx Yoga, located in Newport Beach, California.
First of all, what makes Mixx Yoga unique is its creative mix of cardio and yoga intervals. What makes it more interesting is that Mixx Yoga’s founder. Mitra Hooshmand, just happens to be a neuroscientist! Talk about crazy smart and fit! She created her studio based on the same struggles that we went through with yoga; yoga is great for the body, but sometimes it just doesn’t seem like enough of a workout. She combines yoga with cardio and upbeat music to make the session fun but challenging.
Furthermore, Mixx Yoga take great care of you even when you’re not in their studio. We love their email newsletters, which features everything from what to eat before and after exercise, notifications about special events, and even some quick and simple yoga sequences that you can do at home!
What are some of you favorite ways to stay fit? Do you prefer exercising at home, outside, or at a studio?
