Grad school’s been crazy, and taking care of my skin hasn’t been on the top of my to do list. However, all of the stress, lack of sleep, and eating out has definitely taken a toll on my skin–aka pimples almost worse then my teenage days. If you’re going through something similar, don’t fear. Join us in our journey to eat better, sleep more, and live healthier. Let’s work through this skin disaster together! If not, you can still enjoy this delicious and healthy strawberry smoothie.
Our nutty strawberry smoothie is super simple to make with only a handful of ingredients you probably already have in your pantry! All you need are:
A small handful of nuts–I chose almonds and walnuts
1 cup of frozen sliced strawberries
1 cup of any type of milk–I chose soy
Then, all you have to do is throw all these ingredients into a blender, blend away, and enjoy. As for why this smoothie is so delicious for your skin, read on to find out:
Walnuts are full of omega-3 fatty acids that help lock-in moisture and nutrients to give our skin a beautiful glow. Another beauty-related benefit is that these nuts (chock full of b-vitamins with each bite) help strengthen our hair, reduce hair fallout and improve hair growth! Don’t you already love walnuts even more?
Almonds are a super source for Vitamin E, often labeled as “skin foods” because they have tremendous benefits for our skin, nourishing it and giving it a healthy sheen. Furthermore, these wonder nuts contain many beneficial antioxidants that help cleanse and eliminate toxins from our bodies.
Strawberries are an excellent source of folic acid, which helps remove toxins from our body. Because our skin reflects our bodies on the inside, eliminating toxins from our bodies help gives our skin a natural, healthy, and moisturized glow!
But wait, there’s more! Strawberries are not only beneficial on the inside, but also on the outside. Full of alpha-hydroxy acids, vitamin c, and salicylic acid, applying a strawberry mask to your face can help slough off dead skin cells, clear acne, and improve collagen production. Say hello to youthful beautiful skin!
Lastly, but not least, soy milk contains lots of isoflavones, which helps boost the body’s collagen production–this helps prevent wrinkles and fine lines, thus giving us that smooth and plump skin we’ve all desired.
Now that you know all the benefits of this nutty strawberry smoothie, hope you enjoy it even more! If you’re interested in another healthy recipe, check out our Perfect Overnight Oatmeal for the Busy Girl!
